Anyone who knows me knows that I love to do laundry. Malcolm always makes fun of me because he has never seen someone do laundry as often as I do (until he went on vacation with my mom…gotta get it from somewhere!). I don’t like to have my laundry pile up so I do several small loads a day (hey, we’re a family of 5…that’s a lot of dirty clothes!).
Children are stain magnets. When Alexandra was a baby I felt like I spot treated every outfit she wore and even then the stains wouldn’t come out half the time. It wasn’t always easy to take the time to treat a stain every time I changed her outfits so I needed an easy way to combat the food, dirt, and grease she managed roll around in daily. I filled a bucket in our bathroom with water and Oxiclean and I would throw anything that looked like it might have stains into the bucket and let it soak until the next time I did laundry. You could use a sink in your laundry room if you have…I am just grateful that I was able to convince Malcolm to turn an old hallway closet into a laundry closet so I didn’t have to go outside all the time (when you do laundry as often as I do you want the convenience of having your machines inside your home). Lately, I have been using the sink in our butler’s pantry since it never gets used.
Soaking the garments for a day or two usually was enough to get the stains out, but every now and then I have to soak clothing for a week or so (tomato sauce is usually the culprit). When I soak longer than a few days, I change out the water and add more Oxiclean. I have found that for tough stains it is best to just fill up with enough water to cover the entire garment so the solution is concentrated. Another thing that I love about the Oxi tip is that it can get out set in stains. There have been times when I have missed a stained item of clothing or where my initial soaking was not enough to get the stain out…Oxiclean can still get the stain out after the garment has been through the dryer. It is like magic, I tell you!
